Dr. Triba Gary was born in Chattanooga, TN.  Growing up, she always had a passion for history and discovering “untold” stories.  Her passion inspired her to research cultural preservation of the Gullah-Geechee community for her dissertation at Pepperdine University.  S is for Sweetgrass is her first book. 

Dr. Gary’s career has been marked by diverse experiences in both the pharmaceutical industry with stints at Bristol Myers Squibb, GlaxoSmithKline, Abbott, and Eisai Pharmaceuticals and in education, where she made a significant impact at Kaplan Test Prep and Kaplan Medical. Dr. Gary’s teaching prowess shone through as she taught classes at Kaplan, Emory Continuing Education, and Tennessee State University.  

Dr. Gary’s research pursuits delved into the intricate cultural and contextual complexities of education and leadership.  Her dissertation, titled “Race Matters: A Phenomenological Study of Cultural Education and Preservation in the Gullah-Geechee Community,” reinforced her commitment to fostering cultural awareness, education, and dismantling racism in society.  Her groundbreaking work earned recognition at conferences, including the Hawaiian International Conference on Education, the Women’s Leadership and Empowerment Conference, and the National College Testing Association Annual Conference.

 

Dr. Gary currently lives in Nashville, TN.  She has three adult sons-Cam, Bronson, and Emerson Bryce. She enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends, reading historical books, and watching sports.
